Published in The Guardian on January 16, 2009. This article by Christopher Fox discusses the second string quartet, its short-term reception, and the long-term influence Schoenberg's innovations have had on the musical world. The title of this article is taken from a line in the poem sung in the fourth movement of the second quartet. (Yes, this quartet includes a singer!)
